The zig-zag wind is done by "simultaneously" solving two wind triangles when two
sufficiently different ground tracks and speeds are known(from the GPS) and the TAS
(from the B50) is known). It assumes the wind doesn't change during the track change
which may or may not be a good assumption. It can give a wind from normal zig-zagging
between thermals or "figure eighting" on a ridge as well as giving a quicker wind update
while thermalling which doesn't depend on flying accurate, circular, circles.
You can select zig-zag or drift wind as a default on the PC setup and you can select either
at any time on the B2000. The two calculation methods run simultaneously so if changing
from one to the other there is no delay in seeing the results as they are already stored in the
B2000.
The zig zag wind calculation parameters(averaging etc) are settable from the B2000User
program.
